Last night I saw a group of people on a stage that I could see as President of the United States. I thought my preferred candidate did best, as probably did quite a lot of people who preferred a different candidate. The disagreements were over substantive issues: how much gun control should a candidate be for; should public college be free or reduced-price; what role should we play in foreign conflicts; how much and what should we do to crack down on Wall Street malfeasance.
Nobody got called a name, even on the other side when fun was being poked at them; nobody proposed a plan which was utterly unrealistic, barring intransigent Republican opposition; everyone agreed on basic science and economics.
One of these people will be President. I will fill in the circle for them next November, and I will be glad of it.
